Read the Facts About Depression

Everyone occasionally feels sad, but these feelings are usually fleeting and pass in a couple of days. When a person has a depressive disorder, it interferes with daily life and normal functioning and causes pain for the person with the disorder and those who care about them.

Depression can occur as a result of trauma, loss of a loved one, being involved in a difficult or abusive relationship, or being part of a stressful situation. Anyone can suffer from depression. However, depression is more common in women than among men.

Children can also suffer from depression. A child with depression may pretend to be sick, refuse to go to school, cling to a parent, or worry their parent(s) may die. Other children may sulk, get into trouble at school or be negative and irritable.

Early Detection and Treatment of Depression

Depression, even in the most severe cases, is a highly treatable disorder. As with many illnesses, the earlier the treatment begins, the more effective it is and the greater the likelihood a recurrence can be prevented.

The first step is to seek help by contacting a doctor for a complete evaluation. During the initial visit, a staff clinician will conduct a complete diagnostic evaluation and then develop a treatment method to address your personal needs. In most cases, medication or psychotherapy (talk therapy) or a combination of both will be suggested.

If you are experiencing any of the above-mentioned symptoms, please call our office today, so we can evaluate your situation and start you on the right path to a renewed life today.
